Jamiat-i-Islami executive chief, Ata Mohammad Noor, has protested a decision by the government to appoint new police chief in northern province of Balkh.

The newly appointed police chief of Balkh is Abdul Raqib Mubariz, who is set to replace Ikram Sami.

Noor said that the decision was against the political deal, he said, made in the presence of US and other stakeholders.

“We will not accept the change, even if it leads to crisis or war. We will stand against it at any cost,” Noor warned.

Noor acted as the governor of Balkh for over a decade before he made way for his hand-picked successor last year.

His dismissal by President Ashraf Ghani had triggered a three-month political crisis that many had feared would turn violent.

In protest against the latest decision, Noor has called on residents in Balkh capital Mazar-i-Sharif not to go to work today. He has also called for closure of shops.
