The message was conveyed by

India’s foreign secretary Vijay Gokhale as he met with US Special

Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad during visit to

Washington, Hindustan Times reported.

US has held five rounds of

talks with the Taliban and the sides have reported progress on troop withdrawal

and counter-terrorism assurances.

Progress is yet to made on

an intra-Afghan dialogue and a ceasefire, Khalilzad told Gokhale.

During the meeting, Gokhale

received a positive response when he questioned Khalilzad on whether the

assurance about Afghan soil not being used for terrorism would include groups

that target India.

The Indian diplomat conveyed

that there should be an elected government not an interim administration which

is not constitutionally mandated.
