Referring to a political settlement to conflict in Afghanistan, United States Special Representative Zalmay Khalilzad said he has been working close with NATO since "day one" and will quit if not otherwise.

Khalilzad said Saturday in a tweet that US and NATO will remain together for peace and security in Afghanistan, as well as for peaceful life of the people in the country.

"Working closely with @NATO and other partners and allies has been a priority from day one. We came together. We will coordinate adjustments in our presence together. And if we leave, we will leave together," said Khalilzad in a tweet. "[We will work] together for peace and security for #Afghanistan and for us all."

This comes after the fifth round of talks between the US and Taliban representative in Doha, Qatar, came to an end after unexpected 16 days last week, giving a heads-up on foreign troops withdrawal still in Afghanistan.

Hours after news broke on Doha talks, Khalilzad wrote in a tweet that he would discuss and consult the outcome of the negotiations with other partners in Washington, adding "there is no final agreement until everything is agreed."

“My next step is discussions in Washington and consultations with other partners. We will meet again soon, and there is no final agreement until everything is agreed,” Khalilzad concluded in a tweet.

Khalilzad said peace requires agreement on four issues: counterterrorism assurances, troop withdrawal, intra-Afghan dialogue, and a comprehensive ceasefire.
