“Records are meant to be broken” is a popular cliché. The Indian Premier League (IPL) is 12 seasons old and multiple records have been broken over the years. Alzarri Joseph and Sohail Tanvir will hold special places in the history of the IPL. Three bowlers have taken six wickets in an IPL game. Alzarri Joseph and Sohail Tanvir and Adam Zampa are the players to achieve this unthinkable feat in the shortest format. Tanvir and Joseph have a special connection as far as records are concerned as well.

The Pakistani left-arm pacer created the record when he became the first bowler to pick a six-wicket haul. He took 6/14, playing for the Rajasthan Royals. However, it took 12 seasons for someone to overhaul that and it was a young West Indian turk who took 6/12 on his debut, embedding his name into the IPL history books.

Between Sohail Tanvir and Alzarri Joseph’s spells, the cricket world seems to have turned upside down. So many moments that have been etched in cricketing history.

Here we look at the top five things that have happened in between these two top spells:

1. Virat Kohli’s debut in international cricket and his becoming of World No.1

When the IPL first began, Virat Kohli had recently returned after successfully leading the Under-19 team to a World Cup title in Malaysia. He made his IPL debut in 2008 but didn’t play a lot. When Sohail Tanvir took that 6/14, Kohli hadn’t even made his international debut.

However, a few months later he donned the Indian jersey for the first time and as they say, the rest is history. He is currently rated as the best batsman in world cricket and has achieved impeccable success. In fact, he is currently the No. 1 ranked ODI and Test batsman in the ICC Rankings.

Kohli did have his fair share of struggles. He took time to cement his place in the Indian team, first in ODI cricket and then in Test cricket. He took almost 18 months to register his first ODI ton but once he overcame those struggles, Kohli started becoming a lot more consistent. Now, he’s turned into a run-machine.

He has notched up 66 international hundreds – 41 in ODIs and 25 in Tests. The Delhi lad has become the Indian skipper in all three formats and has led India to become the No. 1 Test team in the world.  He has scored runs in all formats and in all conditions. Virat Kohli has become one of the biggest names in world cricket.
