A girls' school was blown up last night by unknown individuals in Afghanistan's western province of Farah, officials said Monday.

The school, named Benafsha, is located in Tiosak village in the provincial capital, also Farah, said Mohammad Azimi, the provincial education director.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. The official, however, said that the Taliban have large presence in the area.

This is not the first time that the school is attacked. Nearly four months ago, attackers torched the school.

Over the last one year, five schools have been attacked in Farah province.

The latest attack comes as the country’s acting education minister recently said that the Taliban agreed in talks with local elders not to ban girls’ education up to the level of intermediary in areas under their control.
