Fifty-two local and foreign investors are interested to invest in Afghan government's plan to produce 2,000 megawatts of electricity from solar energy, officials said Tuesday.

Acting Minister of Energy and Water Mohammad Gul Khulmi unveiled the projects to construction firms in a ceremony and called for their investment.

He said that currently, Surubi 2, Baghdara and Qala-e Mami are ready for investment, encouraging companies that they will benefit a lot from the projects.

Afghanistan Construction Companies Union urged the government to address the financial and procurement problems of the projects.

Meanwhile, Afghanistan Transparency Initiative believes that securing a contract is difficult without political support and that firms refuse to invest in government projects due to lack of transparency in procurement.

Investment in construction sector has seen significant decline with lower foreign aid. Many of the construction companies have become bankrupt.
